How To Stay Stoked In A Crowded Lineup

It’s true that today’s broad surfing community holds a varied and often questionable understanding of surfing etiquette. Add a few individuals with entitlement issues, a couple more with a lack of common courtesy and respect and we have a recipe for a potential bummer of a surf session. Here’s a few thoughts on how to stay stoked through the lineup.

A Perfect Example Of Why Paddle Boarders Must Always Wear A Leash

There’s a huge debate going on in the SUP world about whether or not paddlers should wear a leash and/or a PFD. One or the other? Both? The video here showcases the perfect example of why paddle boarders must always wear a leash, especially during a downwinder. The video shows just how fast your board can get away from you and leave you stranded out in the middle of the ocean with nothing to keep you afloat.

The Benefit Of Training Indoors

Between wind, weather, chop, swell, no babysitter, working too many hours and missing daylight, and a plethora of other reasons, sometimes the day just doesn’t allow for getting on the water. So, while we can accept the fact that indoor SUP training definitely is not as stress-relieving and euphoric as actually being on the water, it does have quite a few benefits. And when done appropriately, can be affordable AND highly effective.

Athlete Review: Vail Whitewater SUP Race Series

The Vail Whitewater Race Series is a Tuesday night race series put on by Alpine Quest Sports. Every week the top competitors receive points for how well they finish. At the end of the series the competitors with the most points will win the race series. Driving up to the event I wasn't sure what to expect. Read more…

The Benefit Of Stand Up Paddle Boarding For Kids

Sadly, in today’s rushed society, you can’t go anywhere and not see a cell phone or tablet in a child’s hand…and it’s not just kids; adults are guilty of this as well. Truth of the matter is—most kids would rather stay indoors and interact on social media than go outside. Enter stand up paddle boarding (SUP) and we may have a solution!

Empowering Women Through SUP

When I first picked up a paddle and stood on a board in 2010 I felt scared, shaky and out of my element. But after an hour on the water I returned my board feeling confident; if I could go from falling every five seconds to walking on water in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico than I could do anything! I knew immediately I wanted to get more women on the water. I wanted to empower other women through stand up paddling and SUP fitness classes.

SUP Essentials: Free Access To Lakes, Rivers & Seashores

Stand Up Paddling is a fast growing sport and local authorities in Slovenia, a picturesque country in Middle Europe, spotted an easy way to collect some quick and easy cash. Being resourceful, they just skipped businesses as planned on the Californian coast and want to collect directly from paddlers to avoid the middleman. Slovenian paddlers are outraged at these new rules and fees and are fighting back with protests against the new rules. Read more...

How Jarvis Wood Boards Separate Themselves From The Competition

Peering over to my fellow SUP boarders as they float past me, I take note that all of their boards are pretty much the same, and it doesn’t matter if one is a beginner or experienced. What may separate them are the different types of boards, like paddle surfing, yoga, and fishing. But each and every one of them is made from either carbon fiber, plastic, or are inflatable. This is where Jarvis Boards separates themselves from other boards out in today’s market.

SUP Basics: What’s Your Swim Score?

Simplicity is one of the attractive features of standup paddle boarding. When you feel that first glide and realize “Hey, I can do this,” it’s easy to believe that all you need is a board and a paddle, but when you’re standing alone on a platform floating two inches above the water, a few more things are required, because a paddling excursion on any water body can quickly turn into an in-water experience.

Travis Grant On Molokai, SUP Training, And Balance

In the world of standup paddle board racing, the name Travis Grant is synonymous with speed and ocean endurance. Grant is considered to be the "best paddler in the world", though his rankings currently (while writing this) place him at #2. But for this Australian, life on and off the water, is about balance.

Why Surfers Need To Change Their Attitudes Toward Stand Up Paddlers

Surfing in its essence is the art of riding a wave. History takes us back to the ancient Polynesians where this was done with the only purpose was to have fun, yet somewhere along the line the original purpose has been diluted and these days we encounter ourselves sharing the lineups with rather hard-minded people, who think that the only correct way to ride a swell is by using a shortboard.
