El Niño was pretty much all anyone could talk about this past winter in the surf community, and rightfully so. With all the hype surrounding how good the waves were going to be it was a relief to see that forecasters held up on their promise! Mo Freitas was one to have reaped the benefits this winter from El Niño and he just released an edit from his very busy winter on the water.

Leading Shark Scientists Confirm Shark Shield’s Effectiveness

An independent peer reviewed research paper, published in the international science journal PLOS ONE has confirmed Shark Shield as an effective shark deterrent. The research was conducted over a two and half year period at a cost of $680,000, funded by the Western Australian State Government as part of its investment in Shark Hazard Mitigation, following a spate of shark attacks in 2012.

Baxter & Honscheid Win In Dramatic Fashion In Germany

After ratings leaders Fiona Wylde and Casper Steinfath took victory in the Sprints during harsh weather on Saturday, Sunday cleared up and provided excellent conditions for the distance race where Michael Booth and Sonni Honscheid pushed through to take the win. After the two races Connor Baxter and Sonni Honscheid claimed the overall win for the second stop of the Stand Up World Series.
