On Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at approximately 7:50AM PST Chris Bertish, internationally acclaimed Speaker, Big Wave Surfer and Guinness SUP World Record Holder, set a new world record, becoming the first person to paddle across 300-miles of open ocean, unsupported and unassisted.

Chris Bertish Announces Attempt At Solo & Unassisted Transatlantic SUP Crossing

World-renowned big wave surfer, Guinness SUP World Record holder, speaker and adventurer, Chris Bertish, announced the details surrounding his groundbreaking expedition, #theSupCrossing at a press conference held on July 20 at Two Oceans Aquarium at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town. The expedition will mark the greatest ocean adventure ever attempted, the very first solo, SUP transatlantic crossing, unsupported and unassisted, on a custom-made six meter stand up paddle board/craft.

Challenges Force World Record Attempt To Fail

Earlier last week we reported that Chris Bertish, in partnership with Cipla Foundation, was going to attempt a second try at breaking the world record for the current 24-hour stand-up paddleboard (SUP) world record. Unfortunately, due to extreme weather conditions and hypothermia, Chris had to withdraw from his 2nd attempt over 30km into his journey.
