Having a proper paddle stroke is something that takes time and practice to master. Many times when paddling, paddlers make a splash when in the catch phase of the paddle stroke, which shouldn't be happening. SIC Maui is one of the premiere stand up paddle brands producing some of the best stand up paddle products on the market. SIC Maui walked away with two Supconnect Gear of the Year Awards for 2015: Best Race board with their X Pro series and Best Overall Gear of the Year for the SIC Bullet. So, how does SIC Maui create and design their award winning boards? We checked in with the crew and asked them about their magic making process.
Why would a paddle designed for race, or versatile use be expected to perform at a high level in the surf? Werner Paddles has invested in the wave rider and has been working long and hard to develop a paddle suited just for SUP surfing. Their result: The Rip Stick.
With cloudy weather, winds at a strong 25-30 knots and the temperature really low, organizers were facing the worst case scenario, just one day before the race, which was postponing or even canceling the race. On race day, 167 paddlers were given the go-ahead to take part in a challenging day on the water for the 5th annual Corinth Canal SUP Crossing.
Competition is definitely intensifying as we reach only 10 days left in the voting for the 2015 Supconnect Polls. With more and more votes coming in each day, lead changes in the categories are changing daily. We have some really great entries for each category with Photo of the Year, Journey of the Year and Destination of the Year being among the top categories for participation and voting.
In January 2016 Nicolas Jarossay, a 38 year-old French paddler, will be making an attempt to be the first person to cross the Atlantic Ocean, solo and unsupported, on a stand up paddle board. Jarossay plans to paddle over 2,500 miles (4500 kms)over two to three months, from Cape Verde to Martinique.
