NEWPORT BEACH, California – Purps is excited to announce the signing of SUP World Champion, positive role model and health spokesperson, Candice Appleby. A unique individual whose passion for healthy living transcends all boundaries, Candice has thrived in the ocean for as long as she can remember. From a very early age, salt water has run through her veins. Her competitive spirit arrived soon after and she began competing in local shortboard and longboard surfing events by age 10. Her love for the ocean continued to grow when she moved to Oahu to further her education at the University of Hawaii. Mentored by some of the greatest watermen in the world, she was eventually introduced to stand up paddling. It wasn’t long before she became the first woman to beat the men in a professional SUP surfing event at the 2008 Duke Kahanamoku Oceanfest, winning both the women’s division and Open Pro division.

“In the world of stand-up paddling, Appleby is Abby Wambach, Serena Williams, Brittney Griner and Danica Patrick all rolled into one. She’s talented, fiercely competitive, tremendously well-respected and a true ambassador of the sport. Oh, and she’s also not afraid to leave the guys in her wake.” - ESPN W, August 27, 2013

With a plethora of accolades to her name already, including 6x Battle of the Paddle winner and 3-time #1 female ÍSUP athlete of the year, she earned the title of Best Performance of the Year in 2015. Candice also managed to take first place in nearly every event she entered in 2015 while ultimately achieving gold in the ISA World Championships in Sayulita, Mexico in both the course and distance races. Candice always looked for ways to enhance her competitive performance when she discovered Purps at at the end of 2014. The following year, Candice incorporated Purps as a daily staple to her diet leading her to her most successful professional year to date.

Over the course of last season, I really fell in love with Purps products. I began using Purps Hydro as my hydration source during long distance races including the ISA World Championships, Molokai 2 Oahu, the US Open of SUP and the Pacific Paddle Games, all of which I was able to achieve great success. I believe in the product, as I have tested it myself and know that they work well with my body, my sport and my everyday activities. The science behind the brand, ethos and dedication to using Organic/Non-GMO ingredients, is what initially drew me to Purps. It keeps me confident that their products not only taste great, but are a positive addition to my healthy lifestyle. I'm really looking forward to sharing the positive benefits of Purps products in the paddling community and beyond.” – Candice Appleby

A true water-“woman”, Candice finds solace in not only SUP competitions but most sports in or around the ocean. A veteran of ocean triathlons, Pro longboarding events, body surfing events, prone paddling competitions, and lifeguard competitions; Candice finds any reason possible to be in the water. Candice stays active in the SUP community as well, organizing seminars and demos, signings at events, and is an integral part of the overall growth of the sport. As a distinguished member of the community, Candice feels compelled to help the development of the next generation of SUP athletes using her wealth of knowledge and experience.
