Community Races Added To Be the Influence Australian SUP and Paddleboard Title

COOLANGATTA, Australia - The inaugural Be the Influence Australian SUP and Paddleboard Titles on the Gold Coast have added a series of dash for cash and team relays to the schedule. The event will be held at Currumbin from 7th-10th November.

Organised by Surfing Australia, it is the first time SUP and paddleboarding will conduct standalone national titles. Previously SUP has been included in the Australian Surf Festival. 

More than 200 of the country’s best paddlers will represent their State in the four-day event.

 

The surfing and technical racing in both SUP and prone paddleboarding has a three-day window fromThursday, 7th November, to Saturday, 9th November. The marathon in both disciplines will be held on the Sunday.

Spots are still available in both the SUP and prone paddleboarding divisions. 

Entries in the prone paddlebaording division are now open to any competitor who is eligible as per the Surfing Australia Residency Clause on page 13 of the 2013 rulebook and be made here. 

Details on SUP vacancies can be directed to the respective State bodies.

 

Currumbin Creek will also play host to a series of relays and races on the Sunday following the completion of the marathon events in front of the Currumbin RSL. The races will include a Dress SUP Dash for Cash, a SUP Cup Bridge to Bridge Relay for members of the public and a State Teams Challenge Bridge to Bridge Relay.

The event is backed by the Be the Influence - Tackling Binge Drinking initiative, which is a Federal Government campaign addressing youth binge drinking and the influence of alcohol promotion on young Australians by promoting anti-binge drinking messaging through sport sponsorships. Gold Coast Coast City Council is also backing the event for two years. 

The 2013 Be the Influence Australian SUP and Paddleboard Titles are proudly supported by the Be the Influence - Tackling Binge Drinking initiative, Gold Coast City Council, Events Queensland, Connecting Southern Gold Coast, Currumbin RSL, AuSUP, Surfing Australia and Surfing Queensland.
