Grow Your Mo This Movember

andre-AFTER

SAN DIEGO, California - Friday, November 1, signalled the start of a very important and serious month for men around the world: Movember. For the next thirty days, people young and old old will raise awareness for prostate cancer, testicular cancer, male depression and other men’s health issues by wearing a manly sign of observance above their top lips. It’s not always a gracious affair and many a boyfriend, husband and partner will sacrifice their sex appeal for the cause, but it’s a worthwhile endeavor that we’re proud to support.

According to the latest stats from the American Cancer Society, 1 in every 6 men will get prostate cancer in their lifetime and 1 in 36 will die from it, while 1 in every 270 men will be affected by testicular cancer. It’s awesome that people can spread awareness, raise money for research and drag this serious reality into light through a bit of fun; this makes it possible to reach a wider audience.

Slater Trout - soon to be rocking a serious Mo.

This year our friends over at Boardworks have put together an X-Men-like team of facial landscapers, who’ll be growing their mustaches for cash, raising money for cancer research, with open invitation to anybody who’d like to join their tribe. If you needed more encouragement, Slater Trout has thrown down the gauntlet and offered to donate one of his boards to the person who raises the most money. The man behind Supconnect, Andre Niemeyer, has also joined the foray and offered to grow his support symbol this month. This is his mug on day 1:

 Andre - before the tache

We entered this image into the Supconnect Super Computer to calculate how he’ll look by day 31, and according to its predictions the outcome should look something like the opening image in this post. So there we have it. On behalf of Supconnect we’d like to wish every man, woman and child sporting mustaches the very best.

What is Movember?

If some of you don’t know what Movember is all about, here’s a quick synopsis from the good folks at us.movember.com: “Movember is the global men's health charity encouraging men to grow and women to support the Mo (moustache) for the 30 days of November. Through the power of the moustache, AWARENESS AND FUNDS are raised for men’s health to combat prostate and testicular cancer. In the US, programs directed by the Movember Foundation are focused on awareness and education, living with and beyond cancer, and research to achieve our vision of an everlasting impact on the face of men's health.”
