DONNER LAKE, California — After a couple days of snow in the Sierras, the weather broke just in time to usher in the 2nd Annual Donner Lake Memorial Race. A fog lifted off the 48 degree water as the horn sounded to start the 5 mile stand up paddleboard race on Donner Lake. Over 50 competitors were battling each other, the elements and the 6000ft elevation for a place in the winner’s circle.
Tahoe SUP’s Expedition Team was in full force at Donner Lake race and had just received their new custom Z-Elite race boards. “I think the boards were still drying as I drove them up from Southern California.” said Allison Wren, a Tahoe SUP Co-founder. “I arrived in Reno at 3am, slept for 2 hours and was at Donner Lake at 6am” continued Ms. Wren.
With the team outfitted with race boards they were ready to paddle. “We’ve been training hard this winter and were hoping for a big day on the water” said Jay Wild. Jay and his fellow team mates got their wish, as they each battled their way to win first place in their classes. “The boards performed, this is a great way to kick off the season.” said Lel Tone. The results are in and they speak for themselves. The Z-Elite and the Tahoe Expedition Team are a winning combination.
