Ocean Minded Taking Action In Tijuana

SAN DIEGO, California - Over the years, Ocean Minded has been dedicated to helping our beaches stay clean. Recently, on International Coastal Cleanup Day down in the Tijuana River, Ocean Minded set out to clean up the Tijuana River Valley.

Tons of waste ends up in this river bed throughout the year, which normally stays dry throughout the year, and, when San Diego has it’s annual rainfall each year, much of its waste ends up in the ocean.

As part of International Coastal Cleanup day this past Saturday, Ocean Minded and approximately 50 volunteers tackled one of San Diego's, and the region's, regional parks most heavily impacted by litter--the Tijuana River Valley--to kick off Tijuana River Valley Action Month.

In one day they were able to remove around 5,000 pounds of trash, including 20 discarded tires and countless pieces of discarded clothing, plastic forms, single use plastic bottles, and marine and insulation foam.

Over the next month, the crew at Ocean Minded will be spending quite bit of time down there in support of TRAM due to the major impact the area gets from irresponsibility and poor waste management on both sides of the border. To take part and help do your part to keep the beaches near you clean, here's what the rest of their schedule looks like:

Saturday, 27 September – National Public Lands Day
Saturday, 4 October – TRAM Effie May's Trail Cleanup

Saturday, 11 October – TRAM Goat Canyon Trail Cleanup and TRAM Celebration
