Family-Friendly SUP Event To Support Brain Injury Prevention

KELOWNA, British Columbia - British Columbia based charitable association BrainTrust Canada is introducing a new SUP event in Kelowna, set in the beautiful Okanagan Valley. It is called Pihl Law Paddle for Prevention as Kelowna law firm Pihl Law Corporation is title sponsor, with major sponsors TELUS, COSTCO, Peacock Sheridan and Harmony Honda. All proceeds will go to support brain injury education and prevention in the Okanagan.

The event will take place on Sunday, August 9th at Rotary Beach on Lakeshore Drive, with a series of relays for individuals, families and corporate teams of four, as well as a finless race and technical race for those more skilled. SUP expert Bob Purdy, well known for paddleboarding daily since 2013 to promote his cause “Paddle for the Planet” is a consultant to BrainTrust for this charitable fundraising event. The event will strive to be as environmentally friendly as possible, with refillable water bottles and recycled cups.

Registration costs are $30 per single adult and $100 per teams of 4; there will be categories for “individuals”, “families” and “corporate” entrants. Corporate teams are being offered the unique opportunity to contribute an extra $200 to BrainTrust Canada to ‘buy an expert paddler’ in order to help stack their team and to add fun and comradery to the day!

The event starts with registration at 8:00am, followed by a morning yoga warmup led by Moksha Yoga at 8:30am. Relays commence at 9am and last until noon, when the Kelowna Sunrise Rotary Club hosts a delicious barbeque lunch generously sponsored by COSTCO. Fun activities for all ages will also be featured at this event to create a carnival atmosphere for families and spectators.

All adult participants will be eligible to win a SUP ATX Paddleboard package courtesy of Okanagan Beach Rentals and LakeSUP Paddleboard Co., and all youth participants are entered to win a prize package courtesy of the Kelowna Rockets WHL Hockey Team. There are also significant incentive prizes for participants including a trip to anywhere WestJet flies.

BrainTrust Canada is an Okanagan-based organization providing direct services for individuals living with the outcomes of acquired brain injury, family support programs and education. BrainTrust Canada has a strong focus on injury prevention educational initiatives and campaigns that target youth, who are the highest risk for brain injury.
