At the request of the Portuguese Surfing Federation (FPS), the Portuguese Court of Arbitration for Sport decreed an injunction against the Portuguese Canoe Federation (FPC), ordering it to refrain from organizing, collaborating or giving support to the 2018 ICF Stand Up Paddling World Championship, scheduled for August 30th to September 2nd, in Viana do Castelo and Esposende, and that circumvented the laws of the sport.

Athletes from all over the world, including Germany, USA, Spain, Great Britain, Mozambique, Algeria and France, have already registered for this year’s inaugural International Canoe Federation Stand Up Paddling World Championships in Portugal.

In a recent announcement made by the International Canoe Federation (ICF) Esposende, Portugal was announced as the location of their inaugural SUP World Championship to be held later this year. Now in a recent turn of events, the Portuguese Surfing Federation has made a statement saying that the ICF and this event will not take place because it is simply against the Portuguese Laws.

The International Canoe Federation (ICF) has expressed hope a resolution will be reached with the International Surf Association over the management of Stand Up Paddling (SUP) activities before the ICF hosts its first SUP World Championships in Portugal later this year.
