The Shoooutout in 2012 was held in quite favorable conditions when considering the history of the event. The winds were fairly calm, surf was shoulder to head-high, and there was no hail. Temperatures were cold, ranging from 40-50F, but all competitors were positively surprized by how both the race and the surf contest were held in quite tame conditions.
By contrast, 2011 wasn't kind to the event. Winds were blowing well beyond 15mph, there was plenty of hail coming down during the start of the race, and the shorebreak were mercyless, leaving many competitors distraught at the water's edge, unable of making it outside.
