BEACHBURG, Ontario - World Freestyle Kayak Champion and Gopro athlete Nick Troutman is originally from Beachburg, Ontario which is a former municipality of what is now part of a township known as the Whitewater Region.  This area is named after a stretch of world famous whitewater on the Ottawa River which is popular for rafting and kayaking, yet Nick did not always have his heart set on riding the rapids.

When Nick was in high school his ambitions were to either become an architect or an engineer and then head to the big city. However, Nick says that his entire world turned around in the matter of just one day on the water in a kayak.  Now fast forward a little and after 11 years of kayaking, Nick has also added stand up paddle to his repertoire.

"What I really enjoy about it (stand up paddle) is that I get to share the same experiences but just have a different perspective - a different experience doing exactly the same thing," says Nick.  He further explains that when standing up as compared to kayaking, what might seem like a boring class 2 or 3 to him becomes very exciting and fun again on SUP.

Nick's favorite place to paddle is simply where ever his friends are, and he has really come to enjoy his Pau Hana time.  Be sure to watch the video above and hear first hand how he got started in SUP including his really bad first experience and how that all got turned around!

 Enjoy the film.
