ORLANDO, Florida - BIC Sport, a world leader in Watersports for over 30 years, are launching a nationwide Stand Up Paddleboard race series in which all participants race on the exact same equipment.
Known as a "One Design" event, these competitions allow athletes to go up against one another on a level playing field where skill and technique take center stage since all racers are using the same board.
"We've had great success with One Design events in windsurfing, surfing, and Jr. Sailing" explains BIC Sport North America Director, Chris Decerbo, "SUP is a perfect sport for One Design and the new 12'6 WING is the ideal board. The WING is extremely durable and affordable, you shouldn't have to pay $2500 or more for a fragile carbon-fiber race board to enjoy Stand Up Paddleboard racing".
With a focus on recreational racers, WING One Design races feature a fun and exciting race course format with plenty of flexibility to account for the venue conditions and race size. "WING One Design courses are short compared to most SUP races, around 1/2 mile long" notes BIC SUP Product and Marketing Manager, Jimmy Blakeney. "This way we can run heats and allow participants to race the course multiple times".
BIC Sport will unofficially kick off the race series at Surf Expo on September 5 at the Board Demo Day, with an official launch in the Fall in Puerto Rico. Additional details, dates, and locations will be released soon. Visit BIC Sport at Surf Expo September 6-8, at the Orange County Convention Center, Orlando, FL. BIC Sport will be previewing their new 2013 Product Ranges at booth #1169.
