An International Battle at Battle for Hercules

CEUTA, Spain - A truly international field consisting of 14 countries gathered for the start of 2023 Euro Tour. Conditions greatly improved from the recent windstorm, leaving participants with some beautiful ocean conditions that still challenged the entire field.
Women's Race
In the women's race, 8 out of the top 10 finishers were from Spain. Espe Barreras took first place and Duna Gordillo took second place, breaking away from the rest of the field early on. Alba Frey took third place, while Laura Quetglas came in fourth place. Another talented young paddler from Port Adriano in Spain, Sonia Caimari, closed out the top 5.

Men's Race
The men's side was highly competitive, with much of the top 5 taking the lead at one point or another. In a frantic sprint to the finish line, Donato Freens from the Netherlands took first place and Aaron Sanchez Quetglas from Spain took second place. Denmark's Cristian Andersen took third place, while the United Kingdom's Blue Ewer took fourth place. Bruno Hasulyo from Hungary closed out the top 5.

In the morning, the junior and amateur races were a hit with 124 athletes and children as young as 8 years old navigating the amazing "foso de Ceuta." The organizers and volunteers of Battle of Hercules were incredibly helpful, and the authorities of the city, including the military, were instrumental in managing all the logistics.
