Shark Shield has successfully completed the development of a new shark deterrent for surfers that was part funded by the Western Australian Government’s Applied Research Program (ARP). The company was provided with a $300K grant over 2.5 years to develop new technology to protect surfers following a spate of shark attacks in 2012. As a result the new Freedom + Surf is available for pre-order today.

Hawaiian athlete Zane Schweitzer will contest the 2016 The Ultimate Waterman title in New Zealand this month, replacing Australian Jamie Mitchell who is injured it was announced.

Launching a club membership this month, the company will offer a limited subscription model to the first 100 applicants beginning mid-February, 2016. Each May, OluKai holds its annual premier paddling festival on Maui’s north shore to celebrate Hawaiian culture and the traditions that surround this community. The event brings together both elite athletes competing in the world’s best SUP and OC1 races (highlighted by the legendary Maliko Downwind Run) and is also a gathering of friends and family-friendly activities in a celebration of the ocean and cultures that surround it.
