Paddle Board Highlights
Who is it for?
Looking for a beginner-friendly inflatable standup paddle board that’s compact, affordable and comes with the complete package? Check out the All-Around Ultra from iRocker. The All-Around Ultra is best for just that: all around paddling and is best for short-distance paddling, close to shore. This board comes in a variety of colors so you’re sure to find something that best suits your style. The All Around Ultra weighed in around 19lbs making it very lightweight and easy to carry, and it’s definitely a viable option if you are considering this board for the family and especially if you’re looking for a board that doesn’t take up a lot of storage space. The All-Around’s entire package is priced at $799.99, putting it in our mid-tier pricing bracket and comes with everything you need (and more) to get on the water.
To sum up this board in a word: wow. There was so much that stood out on this model it’s hard to even know where to start but we’ll give it our best shot. The specific model of the All-Around came in iRocker’s brand new Ultra technology which makes the board incredibly compact and lightweight. So much so that the backpack is half the size of regular bags that you’ll see on the market. There’s only a select few that we’ve seen of boards that come in a pack this small. And speaking of the backpack, the design details and quality were outstanding. Speaking of details, EVERYTHING was branded with the iRocker logo and colors from the board itself, the deck pad, nose, and straps to the design of the backpack, paddle, electric pump bag, and fins. Great details that just catch your eye! The colorway of the board is very clean with the gray base and the pops of baby pink and blue add a nice touch… definitely a great choice for those who love pink! But again, this board comes in a bunch of different colorways so there’s sure to be something you like if pink doesn’t do it for you. This board is also equipped with teal bungees attached to D-rings at the nose and tail end of the board, which is a great feature for having a kid on the board as well or even for adding a kayak seat. This board has 3 handles, but the middle one stood out the most and was unique in that it wasn’t placed in the center of the board like we typically see. Instead, it’s slightly off-centered, towards the left of the board. This is likely for a couple of reasons: 1) to make the handle closer to the rail for ease of carrying and 2) the way the board folds up it’s folded in half so having the handle not centered likely helps with the folding. The slight downside of this handle placement is that not having it in the center of the board might get in the way of where you’re standing on the board and increases the possibility of catching your toe or foot in it unintentionally. Another thing that stood out to us was the electric pump that’s included in the package which is something that we’ve only seen elsewhere once or twice and is a huge value-add! The electric pump came in a branded bag that matched the color style of the board but was a bright blue (can’t miss it!) and it was super easy to set up and inflate. Once getting up on the board in the water it felt stable,—not as much as their other models that we’ve tried, but stable nonetheless. This board would probably be most comfortable for smaller to mid-sized paddlers, kids, or someone looking for a compact, lightweight and small board to take everywhere and have fun! Overall, this board was very thoughtful with the branding touchpoints, quality of the overall package, and sticking to a mid-tier price point, and for that, the iRocker All-Around is well-deserving of an A grade.
Primary UseAll Around
Paddle Boards fall into two broad categories, All-Around and Specialty boards, with all-around designed primarily for recreation while speciality boards for top performance in specific disciplines
Durability is largely a result of the board construction and shape, with more durable boards typically carrying more materials (added layers, PVC, etc) and as such adding to the weight.
Stability is a product of construction and shape, where boards w/ 30”+ wide and 200+ liters in volume offer plenty of stability for your AVG adult while a board under 26” wide is a challenge.
Glide is a result of board shape and construction, w/ boards weighing under 30lbs and designed for racing offering best glide while recreational boards normally being on the slow side.
Dimensions11' x 32" x 6"
Industry standard in board dimensions reads: L (length, from nose to tail) x W (width, from rail to rail at midpoint length), and H (height, from top to bottom of board at midpoint length).
Standup paddle boards tend to fall into 4 different weight classes: extremely lightweight (under 20 lbs), lightweight (20-28 lbs), average weight (28-35 lbs), heavy (above 35 lbs).
Volume is a key metric to determine how much weight a board can carry. Boards w/ 200+ liters offer most floatation with boards under 150 liters typically for high-performance surf.
Capacity is the max cargo weight a stand up paddle board can carry, considering not only the paddler’s weight but whatever else the paddler may choose to carry alongside him/her.
