Santa Cruz, California - The 4th Annual Surftech Shootout and 2nd Annual Surf & Sand Duel-athlon SUP Race are less than two weeks away! One of the premiere SUP surfing events in the US, the Surftech Shootout takes place below the bluffs of Steamer Lane and welcomes many of the top SUP surfers in the country to the notorious right point break... the performance level is sure to be off the charts! Patterson After a memorable 2011 Surf & Sand Duel-athlon race, in which Santa Barbara's Matt Becker took the win in some of the most challenging conditions of the 2011 race season, race organizers are expecting ideal race conditions for this year's event:
"Last year we were met with a very intense storm system that threw 8-10 foot seas, 40 knot winds, rain and hail at our competitors," said Duke Brouwer, event director. "Despite the challenging conditions, all of the athletes made the most out of the shortened race course and showed what true competitors they are in the face of adversity." This year the weather patterns would indicate much more favorable weather conditions for the race on the 17th."We've had unseasonably warm weather this winter with very little rain and lots of good surf," said Brouwer.
While the Shootout surf event is sold-out, there is still room in the Surf & Sand Duel-athlon SUP Race! With a 2.7 mile short course and a 6.2 mile long course elite race, the Surf & Sand Duel-athlon has something for everyone.
