FOLSOM, California - Start with a perfectly flat body of water, combine angry pirates, rednecks, yogis and many of Northern California's top SUP racers and you've got the Surftech A Day at the Beach California!

The 100 degree weather did not deter hundreds of paddlers from making the trek to Folsom, California to experience this new SUP event format.

The Surftech A Day at the Beach presented by Maui Jim included a 5k Sandbox Obstacle run, 5-mile SUP race, 200m SUP dash-4-cash, SUP Water Polo Challenge, Paradise Paddle, kids events and more. Surftech delivered over 100 demo boards to the beach in preparation for the eager paddlers!

"This must be some kind of record" yelled one competitor, referring to the rows of demo boards lining the beach at Lake Natoma. The Surftech ADATB broke the mold of SUP events by shifting the focus of Saturday's festivities away from competition and concentrated on smiles.

"Surftech and I have been talking about this idea for two years now" said event founder, Chris Hollingsworth. "We wanted to see an SUP event that focused on the fun of this sport and not just the racing. We felt this was the perfect opportunity to introduce curious paddlers to the SUP lifestyle, combining the best ingredients in the industry for a great Day at the Beach."

Fun in the sun was the theme of the day as Surftech introduced more than 150 people to stand up paddling. Surftech employees, SUP Core trainers and REI Outdoor School instructors matched new paddlers with proper Surftech boards and Quickblade paddles.

With boards underfoot and paddles in hand, participants toured the 1.5 mile Paradise Paddle course to visit several tour stops and collect raffle tickets along the way for the day’s closing raffle. Port stops included Polynesia, the Caribbean, Redneck Riviera and the Yoga Cove complete with snacks and music.

"The Paradise Paddle was a great idea" said Surftech events manager, Duke Brouwer. "We had more than 200 people on the water at once paddling to the different destinations and having a blast. I think the crowd favorite had to be the SUP H2O Polo though. We may see that event in the Summer X-Games in the near future!"
