SAN DIEGO, California - This week's events start extra early with the Surf Expo already in full swing, beginning with a Demo day on Wednesday, September 7th. Then, once Saturday creeps up, several big events are happening including the US OPen of Stand Up Paddle and the culmination of Jack Shimko's Paddle2Live event.

US Open of Stand Up Paddle

The US Open of Stand Up Paddle is the premier event for Stand Up Paddleboarding, the fastest growing sport in the world. We have teamed up with paddleboard specialists of Ark Paddleboards to create and operate the best event possible.

With top competitors traveling from all over the world to race for a large purse, a lot of anticipation for this competition is already mounting. There have been challenges for paddleboarding in the past, but this will stand apart as we are offering $35,000 in prize money.

Surf Expo is produced twice annually for manufacturers and retailers in the Board, Beach and Fashion industries. Held in January and September in Orlando, Florida, Surf Expo draws buyers from specialty stores across the U.S., the Caribbean, Central and South America and around the world.

Surf Expo features approximately 2,000 booths of apparel and hardgoods and a full line-up of special events, including fashion shows, annual awards ceremonies, and skate and other boardsport demos.

In late August of 2011, Jack Shimko will attempt a 260-mile ultra-marathon in the open ocean, drawing an audience and fundraising dollars for Paddle2live 2011. With Shimko’s leadership and now, with the support of the Newport Beach-based John Wayne Cancer Foundation, The City of Newport Beach, and many other local businesses and community members, Paddle2live aims to reach its goal of raising $1,000,000 to fight Cancer.

Shimko is set to depart on August 26th from Pt. Conception, CA, and plans to paddle 26 miles a day for 10 days, touching all 8 of the Channel Islands before reaching the Newport Beach Pier. Equipped with a support boat and satellite production crew, video content will be sent back daily to the Paddle2live event website. This content, coupled with additional cancer-related programming will be showcased online and during the P2L race day on September 10th. Jack Shimko’s Paddle2live has set-forth a challenge that will certainly inspire our community.
