CARLSBAD, California – Shawn Styles of CBS 8, a local San Diego news station, visits the Carlsbad Lagoon to drum up local support for the Kayak & Stand Up Paddle Board Regatta and Poker Run. The event, which will benefit the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation, will be held Saturday, October 22nd from 9 AM to 1 PM.

Lisa Rodman, Executive Director of the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation, says about the Carlsbad Lagoon “There’s a jeopardy here that if you don’t take care of it, it’ll go away. And the only way that you can take care of it is by bringing awareness and educating people, and you need funds to do that.”

Established in 1990, the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation serves as an advocate for the Lagoon and strives to preserve its natural healthy ecosystem and habitat including wildlife and marine life, while at the same time balancing the need for public access, trails and recreational opportunities.

One such recreational activity keeps people coming back to the lagoon for more. Stand up paddling has begun to thrive in this area as an alternative to kayaking and several locations on the lagoon offer stand up paddleboard rentals as well as lessons.

Morgan Becker

After spending the first part of her life in Minnesota, Morgan traded in her snow boots for sandals and moved to sunny California. After graduating with a degree in Communication from The University of Southern California, she eventually made her way down south to San Diego and is taking advantage of the living by the best beaches and burritos California has to offer. If it’s sunny, you can find her at the beach relaxing, or exploring the calm water in the bay via paddleboards and kayaks.
