Trout Wins Gulf Coast SUP Championships

MADEIRA BEACH, Florida — Coming back from Hawaii to visit his home turf in Florida proves to be a welcoming for 15 year old Slater Trout. Although the temperature and conditions were extreme, Slater kept his cool and a solid lead from the start of the race amongst the 60 plus Elite competitors over the 9 mile course.

“This was definitely one of my top 3 most brutal, physically and mentally draining races yet! 9 miles in 92 degree weather with 100% humidity up swirling currents inter coastal and dead flat water in the Gulf, 1:45:39 of all out sprinting... All that being said, an amazing event, great people and great support. I’m looking forward to next year.” says Slater.

“I was very happy with the turnout. The race had about 100 competitors with people traveling from all over: North Carolina, Hawaii, California, Texas and even the Caribbean. On race day we had near record high temperatures with calm water conditions which made it very hot. I was extremely pleased to have the top racers participate like EJ Johnson, Brandi Baksic and Slater Trout. Slater’s performance was nothing short of dominating to win the Men’s Elite race. He led the entire race and at his young age of 15 showed why he is going to be a force to reckon with for a long time to come. Overall I am really happy with the race and look forward to establishing it as one of the premier races in the US.” says Event Organizer, Brody Welte
