SUP Joins Mainstream California Beach Fest

 

The 5th Annual Carlsbad Beach Fest is ready for SUP on June 9th, 2012.

Stand up paddlers are excited and getting ready to join the Carlsbad Beach Fest this June.

 

CARLSBAD, California - On June 9th 2012,  in just a little under 2 months, the stand up paddle world is going to witness a tremendous integration of SUP with the main stream beach scene in sunny Southern California.  The Carlsbad Beach Fest will be celebrating its 5th annual festivities and expects to see potentially more than 12,000 people turn out to the mile long beach venue.   A fun run, kite flying, lifeguard demos, beach soccer, surf clinics, beach volleyball, sand sculptures, and many other events will create a huge playground of activity for the city and all it's guests.  Vendors, food, art, and music will also help set the stage for what will surely become an unforgettable day at the beach. However, there are a few events that will be new to the Beach Fest scene this year, namely S U P!  

 

Presented in part by Legends SUP of Carlsbad and Victory Koredry,  the Carlsbad Beach Fest is happy to invite paddlers, from both the stand up and prone disciplines, to "Pick their Poison" and participate in one or all of 3 races: the 6-Mile Race, 1-Mile Race, and/or SUP Surf Race which runs in and out of the break!   All the races begin at Tamarack State Beach and will get started with on site registration at 8am.  Boardworks Surf will also be on hand to provide a limited amount of SUP boards and paddles for testing the waters or joining the 1-mile Race.  Be sure to visit them at the event and reserve time on a board!   You can find more detailed information and early registration details for the races by clicking here. 

 

This is truly an exciting moment for stand up paddle boarding and demonstrates how its universal appeal and fun factor make it worthy of being an integral part of the traditional beach scene. The event’s Executive Director, Tamara Urie, said, “Beach Fest has become possibly the most important community event of the year," which makes it even more powerful that Stand Up Paddle Boarders have been invited onto the scene!

Carlsbad Beach Fest is a free festival open to the public.  Individuals in competitive sports will need to register and pay for their event(s). Carlsbad Beach Fest Foundation Inc. is a nonprofit 501(c) (3) public charity which is dedicated to caring for their beaches and water passages.  Its founding sponsors are NRG West and Life Technologies.  Executive Director Tamara Urie said, “This event has grown exponentially over the last four years – and with support from CA State Parks, the City of Carlsbad, and the Carlsbad community, Beach Fest continues to raise environmental consciousness and funds to help provide this annual celebration and support local coastal improvement projects.”
