Ocean Minded Leads Races & Beach Cleanup in Tahoe

Ocean Minded helped Cleanup at Lake Tahoe during the 2013 Race the Lake of the Sky Event.

LAKE TAHOE, California - Many paddlers in the stand up paddle race community are becoming very familiar with the Race the Lake of the Sky event that just recently took place up at Lake Tahoe. It has become one of the most fun and exciting summer SUP (stand up paddle) events of the year and is one that many paddlers look forward to attending. ·It is also an event that is attracting many spectators and vendors.

 

This year Ocean Minded was among those companies who attended the paddle event but it wasn't simply just to share their popular outdoor apparel.  They also participated to support a tremendous group of athletes who ride as ambassadors for their brand and to organize and lead the way regarding the Race the Lake of the Sky Cleanup / National Summer Cleanup Initiative.

 

According to Ocean Minded, they have been organizing community beach clean-ups around the world since 1996.  They educate their customers on the importance of leaving their chosen playgrounds in better condition than when they were found.  The Ocean Minded belief that everything eventually ends up in the ocean has led them to host additional clean-ups in the mountains, as well as on the banks of inland rivers and lakes.

 

The Ocean Minded and Race the Lake of the Sky beach cleanup resulted in about 50 volunteers who's efforts collected appoximately 250 pounds of trash. The cleanup was held during the 14.3 mile stand up paddle race on Sunday June 30th as spectators waited for the competitors to navigate the course.  It's fun to note that the overall winner of the race was none other than Ocean Minded team rider Thomas Maximus. 

 

When asked about the cleanup efforts at the event Maximus had this to say, "Super stoked to be an Ambassador of Ocean Minded, promoting their Brand & Mission Statement far beyond the boundaries of the Ocean Coastlines..... Just one look at a pic of the pristine crystal clear emerald green & blue waters of Lake Tahoe reaffirms why it's sooo important to spread the message 'Live, Protect and Respect our Environment!' Other Ocean Minded Ambassadors at Race the Lake of the Sky 2013 also performed incredibly well.  Here are all their team results:

• Candice Appleby came away with three wins, 1st in the 5 miler - 12'6 SUP board division, 1st in the SUP cross event and 1st in the 14.3 miler on a prone paddleboard.
• Anthony Vela also took 1st place on an unlimited prone paddleboard in the 14.3 Sunday distance race and also took home 2nd place in the 5 mile Saturday race - 14' SUP division.
• Thomas Maximus was 1st overall in the unlimited SUP division in both the Saturday 5 mile and Sunday 14.3 mile races. ·He also finished 4th in the SUP Cross event.

 

Congratulations to these Ocean Minded athletes on great performances during the weekend but also to the entire company for their efforts to make the world a better place by cleaning up.  There is no doubt but that they would invite everyone, everywhere to Be Ocean Minded.
