DOHENY BEACH, California - The Battle of the Paddle was brought to you by a live webcast at www.supconnect.com.  The day started with two preliminary heats which determined who would advance into the final of the main event.  Then, while the elite racers rested, 389 paddlers participated in, and finished, the Battle of the Paddle Open Race which officially set a new Guinness Book World Record for the most people participating in a singe SUP race.  Then, it was time for the final!

As usual both the men's and women's races were full of intensity and surprise. For the men the leaders jockeyed back and forth for the first place spot several times.  Sometimes it was Connor Baxter out front and other times Kai Lenny took charge.  In the end, however, it was Danny Ching who came out the victor.  He was definitely hungry after a third place finish in 2011 and proved it at Doheny Beach yesterday. (more results below)

For the women there ended up being great performances by all the usual suspects and despite treacherous winds for the entire field, they managed to still paddle fast and have some great results.  Annabel Anderson came out the winner, with Candice Appleby in second and Brandi Baksic in third.  Unfortunately Candice fell when another competitors board hit her, but she came back strong and also had an amazing race. (more results below)
