Cast for Kids 2010: SUP Fishing Contest

Sponsors, Participants, Spectators: Thank you all for your support of the 1st Annual ARK Boards & Board Sports Productions, Cast for Kids - Stand Up Paddle Board Fishing Tournament!

The event was a huge success in bringing this "first of its kind" fishing tournament to the East Coast and there was no better place to kick it off than to have it in Pompano Beach; a city named after the Florida Pompano, a fish found in the waters right off our coast!

The morning started very early, 6:00am, with open registration, complimentary coffee, and one of the most beautiful mornings I've witnessed in South Florida; clam winds, flat sea, and a gorgeous early morning moon with distant clouds glowing of red amber! Most SUP Fisherman showed up bright and early preparing their boards and tackle for the long morning on the open ocean. We had a final total of 18 Stand Up Paddle Board Fisherman; the last registrant signing up and starting after 9:30am!

There was constant monitoring of the 18 SUP Fishermen all through out the morning, provided by four support boats, Captained by: Jim Higgins, Tom Ralph, Jeff Keine, and John Potts. Wave Blast Water Sports donated the use of a very nice wave runner, which was piloted by both Rachel Bryon and Nick Freeman. THANK YOU to all our volunteers for your generosity, professionalism, and dedication.

By mid morning we had word that Roray Kam had caught the first King Mackerel, followed by an update that Jake Portwood, Chris Stephan, and many more, had catches and that Chris Stephan King Mackerel was in the running with Roray's catch!; the morning was full of anticipation as we were all anxious to know who had caught the biggest fish, and the most fish, in both divisions!

Team - Stihl Tight: John Hartsock / Mike Hanstein 34lbs

Winners took home plaques, handmade fishing rods, apparel, fishing magazines, sunblock, lip balm, hats, and great memories and the bragging rights of over achieving in the first of its kind event on the East Coast!

The Tournament was followed by a great time at the outdoor Tiki Bar and Patio of the Ocean Point Beach Resort! Where everyone had a chance to catch-up with the participants, enjoy BBQ food prepared fresh by US SteakHouse, buy Raffle tickets, and for all who were 21yrs and older, drank complementary draft beer and great rum specials from Happy Rum!
