SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Here is the letter Boardworks received this past week: "As you may be aware, Outdoor Industry Association is hosting the second annual OIA Outdoor Inspiration Awards presented by adidas Outdoor in a couple of weeks (at Outdoor Retailer), specifically to recognize the programs, people and companies that are breaking new ground and getting people active outdoors.
This year we had nearly 250 nominations and Boardworks has been nominated as one of the SMALL COMPANY category winners, and is one of three finalists for the award. Final selection of the winners is being made by a panel of outdoor business and community leaders who have their own inspirational track records to draw from, though we wanted to let you know that you’re in the final round of consideration. Winners will be determined by Monday, January 9.
Hundreds of business and outdoor leaders will gather during the evening of January 20, 2011, at Outdoor Retailer Winter Market in Salt Lake City to recognize the winners and formally present the awards. Mountaineer Reinhold Messner and championship climber Sasha DiGiulian will be on hand to talk about their own inspirations and to take part in the Award presentations, and we wanted to know if you would be available to join us at the celebration if Boardworks is selected as one of the award winners. If you are not available, can you let us know if a proxy can be made available to accept the award on the company’s behalf (again, if Boardworks is the selected winner)? Congratulations on being a heralded and appreciated inspiration to others, and please let me know if you are available to join us for the celebration if you are selected as one of our 2012 winners." – LaRae Marsik, Vice President of Business Intelligence, Outdoor Industry Association
The Outdoor Industry Association encompasses a barrage of outdoor businesses, ranging from footwear and climbing gear to kayaking and beyond, so to be chosen among such a crowd is quite an achievement, not only for Boardworks but also for the entire standup paddleboard industry. Let's hope Boardworks clinches the prize and puts the blossoming sport atop the inspirational chart. (Visit Boardworks SUP to learn more.)
