2012 Molokai 2 Oahu Championships Today

M2O-2012-A

The Women of M2O

Hawaii - Today is race day of another historic M2O World Championships.  Once again the experienced are gathering together to cross the 32 mile "channel of bones" between Molokai and Oahu.

There are several specific points of interest that will make the 2012 event one to remember.  First is the fact that after 10 years of back to back wins, Jamie Mitchell will not compete in the men's traditional paddleboard division.  This will ensure that someone new will claim the title this year and perhaps begin another legacy of winning.

Also of special interest this year is the fact that there will be more women competing in the event than ever before.  Good luck to all the ladies and congratulations to all those who have gone before and inspired others to face the challenge.

Finally, Molokai greats, Dave Kalama and Jamie Mitchell, are asking for extra support for George Ramos.  George has competed every year for the past 15 years in the M2O and has recently been diagnosed with cancer.  He will paddle again this year, but the paddle community is pulling together and asking for individuals to donate $32 for each of the 32 miles he will paddle to help pay for medical expenses and the cost of fighting for his life.  Contributions can be made here:  http://www.active.com/donate/GeorgeRamos

With much anticipation and excitement, the paddlling communities will all wait to see who the next champions of M2O will be in both the traditional Paddleboard and of course the Stand Up Paddle disciplines.  Stay tuned!
