Terms ofUse

The ground rules for using supconnect.com, a free member account, and sending us events, destinations and photos.

These terms cover your use of supconnect.com, run by Supconnect, LLC ("Supconnect", "we", "us"). Please read them: they include a limit on our liability and say which law and courts apply.

Accepting These Terms

By using the site, opening a member account or sending us anything, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy, which explains what we collect and why. Some pages and forms have their own rules, such as the Photo Contest rules and the agreements on each submission form; those apply too, and where they are more specific they win. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

Who Can Use the Site

Supconnect is for people 13 and older. If you are 13 to 17, please read these terms with a parent or guardian, who agrees to them for you. If you use the site for a business or club, you agree to these terms for it too.

Using the Site

Supconnect is a stand up paddle board publication. You are welcome to read, share links to and print our stories, reviews and guides for your own use. Our words, photos, videos, logos and design belong to Supconnect or to the photographers and writers who work with us, and are protected by copyright and trademark law. Please do not copy or republish them without asking us first. Short quotes with credit and a link back, as fair use allows, are fine.

Acceptable Use

When you use the site, please do not:

  • break, overload or get around the site's security, or probe it for weaknesses;
  • scrape or copy it in bulk, by robot or by hand, including to train AI models, without our written permission;
  • send anything unlawful, false, misleading, hateful, harassing, sexually explicit or that invades someone's privacy;
  • send anything you do not have the right to share, or that infringes someone else's copyright, trademark or other rights;
  • pretend to be someone else, or misstate your connection to a business or event;
  • send spam, advertising we did not agree to, or malicious code;
  • use the site for anything unlawful.

We may remove anything that breaks these rules and block access for anyone who keeps breaking them.

Member Accounts

A member account is free and optional. You need to be 13 or older to open one. Keep your sign-in to yourself: you are responsible for what happens in your account, and please tell us at once if you think someone else has used it. You can delete your account at any time from Manage account in the account menu, or by emailing us; the Privacy Policy explains what that removes. We may suspend or close an account that is used to abuse the site or other people, or that breaks these terms, and we may change or end member features, telling you on the site first where we reasonably can.

What You Send Us

You can send us events, destinations, photos for the Photographer Series and entries to the Photo Contest. Only send what is yours to share and true to the best of your knowledge. An editor reviews everything before it appears, may edit or rewrite it in our house style, and may decide not to publish it. We never publish your email address; the Privacy Policy explains what we keep and for how long.

You keep ownership of what you send. By sending it, you give Supconnect the permissions below, and you confirm that you have the right to give them and that anyone recognizable in your photos has agreed to appear.

  • Events and destinations. You let us publish the details you send, edited by us, on supconnect.com and in our newsletter and social media.
  • Photographer Series photos. You confirm you took the photos and own the rights, and you give us permission to publish them with credit to you in a Photographer Series feature and on Supconnect's website and channels, as the submission form says.
  • Photo Contest entries. The Photo Contest rules and the agreement on the entry form apply. You keep your copyright and give Supconnect a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide permission to show your photos, always with your name as credit, on supconnect.com, in the Supconnect newsletter and on Supconnect's social media channels, including to promote the Photo Contest and Supconnect. We will not sell your photos or license them to anyone else.

To have a photo taken down, email us and we will remove it from the site. Copies already sent in a newsletter or posted on social media before your request may stay where they are.

Copyright Notices

We respect other people's work and expect our readers to do the same. If you believe something on supconnect.com infringes your copyright, send a notice to our designated agent under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act:

Copyright Agent, Supconnect, LLC, 4646 Bryson Terrace, San Diego, CA 92130, U.S.A. Email: info@supconnect.com, with "Copyright notice" in the subject line.

Your notice needs:

  1. your physical or electronic signature;
  2. a description of the work you say is infringed;
  3. the address of the page on supconnect.com where the material appears;
  4. your name, postal address, phone number and email address;
  5. a statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent or the law;
  6. a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act for them.

We remove or disable the material and tell the person who sent it to us. If you sent us material that was taken down and you believe that was a mistake, you can send a counter-notice to the same address with your signature, the material and where it appeared, a statement under penalty of perjury that you believe in good faith it was removed by mistake, your name, address and phone number, and your consent to the jurisdiction of the federal court for your district (or, outside the United States, any district where Supconnect may be found) and to accept service from the person who sent the notice. Unless they tell us they have gone to court, we may restore the material 10 to 14 business days after we receive it. We close the accounts of people who repeatedly infringe, and false notices or counter-notices can carry legal liability.

Other Sites, Events and Businesses

We link to and list event organizers, outfitters, rental shops, tour operators, manufacturers and other websites so you can find out more or book. Those businesses and events are not run by us, and we do not endorse or guarantee them. Their prices, bookings, refunds, safety practices and privacy policies are between you and them, and we are not responsible for them. Our reviews are our editors' honest opinion, not a promise about any product.

Paddling Conditions and Safety

Our stories, reviews, destination guides and event listings are written to help you plan, not to replace your own judgment. Stand up paddling and every water sport carry real risks, including injury, drowning and death. Water, weather, tides, currents, access rules and event details change, sometimes from one hour to the next. We do not promise that any event will take place on the date or at the place listed, that a launch or beach is open, or that anything on the site is complete, current or right for your skill level. Check conditions, local rules and event details with the organizer yourself, wear a leash and a personal flotation device where required, and paddle within your limits. You take part in any activity, event or trip you find through the site at your own risk.

Disclaimers

The site and everything on it are provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, Supconnect disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement and accuracy, and does not promise that the site will be uninterrupted, secure or free of errors or harmful code.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Supconnect and its owners, editors, contributors and service providers are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or goodwill, arising from or related to your use of the site, its content, events or businesses listed on it, or these terms, even if we were told such damages were possible. Our total liability for any claim arising from or related to the site or these terms is limited to one hundred US dollars (US$100). Some places do not allow some of these limits, so they may not all apply to you; nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow us to limit, such as for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by our negligence where that law applies.

Indemnity

If you break these terms, or send us content that infringes someone's rights or breaks the law, and that leads to a claim against Supconnect, you agree to cover Supconnect's reasonable costs, including legal fees, and any damages that result, to the extent the law allows. We will tell you about the claim and let you help defend it.

Governing Law and Disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, U.S.A., without regard to its conflict of law rules. Any dispute arising from or related to the site or these terms will be decided only in the state or federal courts located in San Diego County, California, and you and Supconnect agree to their jurisdiction. Either of us may instead bring a qualifying claim in small claims court. Before going to court, please email us at info@supconnect.com so we can try to put things right. If you live in a country whose law gives you the right to bring a claim in your own courts or under your own law, nothing here takes that away.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms as the site changes. When we do, we will post the new version here with a new date. Using the site after a change means you accept the updated terms. A change does not apply to a dispute that arose before it was posted.

The Rest of the Fine Print

  • Entire agreement. These terms, the Privacy Policy and the rules on any form or contest page you use are the whole agreement between you and Supconnect about the site.
  • Severability. If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, that part is changed as little as needed to make it enforceable, and the rest stays in force.
  • No waiver. If we do not enforce part of these terms at once, we can still enforce it later.
  • Assignment. You may not transfer your rights under these terms. We may transfer ours as part of a sale or merger of Supconnect.
