SAN CLEMENTE, California – USA Surfing’s Board of Directors confirmed today the dates for the 2017 USA SUP and Paddleboard Championships and Team Trials: June 16th - 18th, 2017, Oceanside, CA, North Harbor Jetty.

The intention of the National Championship events will be to crown USA Champions in multiple divisions, develop SUP and Paddleboard racing in the USA, and select the USA team for international competitions including the ISA World SUP and Paddleboard Championships and in 2019, the Pan American Games. The international team selection is the first ever program for qualifications and tryout for the USA SUP and Paddleboard team and signifies a major step forward - placing the team selection squarely in the hands of the paddlers.

Brody Welte, Head Coach of USA SUP and Paddleboard says, "We have decided we will not host regional events this year so we can avoid conflicts with other longstanding paddling events. We will focus on our three-day USA Championship which we are running on dates that don't have a conflict for the paddlers. This is in the best interests of the USA SUP and Paddleboard team so we maximize the opportunity for robust competition." Welte further added, "We will endeavor to hold regional events in 2018. First and foremost, we wanted to preserve the intention of what we set out to accomplish - a performance based team selection in 2017"
