South Shore Paddle Board Challenge is For Family

Down Wind Sports and the Munising Visitors Bureau announce that The South Shore Paddle Board Challenge will be held September 21st 2013.

 

MUNISING, Michigan – Down Wind Sports, The Munising Visitors Bureau, Werner Paddles and C4 Waterman are proud to announce that we are joining forces to organize one of the largest SUP events in the Midwest. The South Shore Paddle Board Challenge (SSPBC) will take place in Munising Bay September 21st 2013 and will draw stand up paddlers from all over the country.

This event will take place in the crystal clear waters of Lake Superior with the amazing backdrop of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. The SSPBC will include a recreational and elite race for all ages and skill levels.  There will also be free product demonstrations, clinics, tours of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore/Grand Island and an Awards Party presented by Werner Paddles and C4 Waterman. The main event is a 6 mile circuit style race and paddlers will be competing for over $10,000 in prize money.

“While there are many stand up paddle board race venues throughout the country there is undoubtedly no better venue then Munising and Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Before and after races we will be able to offer tours of Pictured Rocks and Grand Island where from a Stand Up Board, you can slip up beside the towering cliffs, explore the caves, pull under water seeps, take a shower under a waterfall or explore the intricacies of shoreline bedrock. No other venue in the country can offer this type of experience” said Bill Thompson co organizer of the race.

About South Shore Paddle Board Challenge:

Down Wind Sports, Werner Paddle and C4 Waterman organized this event because they believe that they are addressing a need in the SUP community that was not currently being met. Their idea is to provide a quality paddling experience promoting Stand Up Paddling for the whole family. This is a unique event in that will have competitive races, fun races, clinics, demos and a killer party.  What makes this event different you ask? The event is being held in one of the greatest fresh water lakes in the world, the world class paddling destination right at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Just imagine competing in a race with payouts that go quite deep, and then being able to take a tour through caves and under waterfalls with the entire family. This will be a weekend that the whole family will enjoy and could possibly be the highlight of the summer!.
