MOLOKAI, Hawaii - Sonni Hönscheid will be going for a three-peat as the SIC team will be attending the 2016 Molokai 2 Oahu Paddleboard World Championships. SIC Team Athletes Braly Joy, Kenny Kaneko & Will Schmidt will be racing the storied M2O, presented by Kona Longboard Island Lager, celebrating its 20th anniversary on Sunday, July 31, 2016.

"I am really looking forward to the Molokai 2 Oahu," said Hönscheid, SIC Global Team Athlete. "It is going to be my fifth year crossing the Ka'iwi Channel. It is a challenge... see how far can you get, reaching your limits and surprising yourself going over your limits."

Continuing with a dominating race season, Hönscheid is hungry for a hat trick after coming off back to back wins in the Molokai 2 Oahu in 2014 and 2015. The SIC Team will not be the only ones racing on SIC boards as the Bullet is the race board of choice for most of the elite athletes, as premiere racers like Connor Baxter will be racing on his own SIC Maui Custom race board.

"Expectations?" Hönscheid continued. "It's a new year and it all starts from zero! Winning this race twice as the first European is an absolute honor. Something no one can take away from you. My expectations are enjoying this crossing, giving my best and seeing how it all comes out."

M2O is an open-ocean endurance paddleboard challenge, featuring racers in both the prone and stand-up (SUP) divisions. Connecting the islands of Moloka’i and O’ahu, this 32-mile race crosses the Ka’iwi Channel, also known as the Moloka’i Channel. Men and women from more than 20 countries will face challenging conditions as they navigate the fastest downwind route over one of the deepest channels in the world. Top athletes typically complete the crossing in less than five hours, riding mid-channel waves that can crest more than 12 feet and carry paddlers hundreds of meters at a time. The race starts on Kaluakoi Beach on the north shore of Moloka’i and finishes in Maunalua Bay on the south shore of O’ahu.
