Tragedy Hits Mission Bay: 12-Year-Old Paddleboarder Dies

SAN DIEGO, California - In a heart-wrenching incident, a 12-year-old girl lost her life while paddleboarding in Mission Bay last Saturday afternoon. The young girl's life was cut short when she was struck by a jet ski operated by an 18-year-old man near De Anza Cove.

According to witnesses at the scene, the collision occurred around midday on Saturday. The impact from the jet ski hit the girl, causing severe injuries and leaving her in immediate need of medical attention. Quick-thinking individuals nearby came to her aid and brought her to shore on a boat where cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was administered immediately in an attempt to revive her.

The girl was rushed to Scripps La Jolla Hospital, where medical staff worked tirelessly to save her life. Despite their best efforts, the young girl was tragically pronounced dead at the hospital.

The incident has raised serious concerns regarding water safety and the rules governing watercraft activities in Mission Bay. As the investigation unfolds, the San Diego police are urging any witnesses who were present during the crash to come forward and assist with gathering essential information to better understand the circumstances leading up to the tragic event.

One of the primary questions arising from the incident is whether the jet ski driver was adhering to the designated speed limits. Reports indicate that the speed limit in De Anza Cove, where the accident occurred, is set at a mere 5 mph. Investigators will thoroughly examine whether the 18-year-old man was abiding by this regulation at the time of the collision.

As of now, it remains unclear whether any charges will be brought against the jet ski operator. The police are diligently investigating the incident and collecting evidence to determine the precise cause of the collision and whether any negligent behavior played a role in this devastating loss of life.

Community members have been left in shock and grief over the young girl's untimely passing. Local authorities and safety advocates are reminding everyone to exercise caution while on the water and to be well-informed about watercraft rules and safety guidelines to prevent similar incidents in the future.

This tragic accident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and responsible watercraft operation to protect the lives of those enjoying recreational activities on the water. As the investigation continues, the thoughts and prayers of the community go out to the family and loved ones of the young girl, hoping they find strength during this difficult time.
