Paddle Board Highlights

Who is it for?

If you’re looking for an entry-level inflatable touring board that comes with everything you need to get on the water, take a look at Aztron’s Neptune SUP. Priced at $579 this board comes equipped with a bag, paddle, pump, fin and leash which is essentially everything you need right out of the gates. Due to its shape, this board is well suited for paddlers of all skill levels and is designed for paddling longer distances, able to handle some light chop.

First Impressions

Aesthetically, the board comes with a nice set of graphics featuring dark blues with a nice accent yellow as well as a moon graphic on the deck that aligns with the theme of the brand. And what’s more, these graphics are across the package as a whole including the box the gear comes in, the bag and fin. Small details like these show the thought that goes in behind the scenes when designing the package. With its Double Layer MSL Fusion construction, the Neptune felt pretty durable while also being a lightweight board. Usually you'll find that with added layers in the construction you'll get a higher board weight but here you're not seeing that. Additionally, the board features a double chamber technology which takes the safety of this board to the next level and at the same time helps the board feel nice and stiff. These features are not too common for a board at this price point so note the value add there. In terms of accessory add ons, you’ll find plenty of D-ring attachment points on the deck, the four furthest towards the nose of the deck being for a bungee cord. Do note, the strings for the bungee do not come set up. If you want them on the board you’ll have to set them up yourself. Not a huge hassle but something to keep in mind. On the water, the board was comfortable and had a nice glide. Compared to the Aztron Terra, their other touring SUP designed for women or smaller paddlers, this board felt a bit better. The paddle was very lightweight, it looks like a lighter plastic material which was nice weight wise and it had this grooved shaft, which made it so your hands don’t slip but that being said, the quality felt lower budget and on the more fragile side. Overall, the package comes with everything you need and has a nice look to it at a reasonable price point.

Benefits

  • Primary Use

    Touring

Paddle Boards fall into two broad categories, All-Around and Specialty boards, with all-around designed primarily for recreation while speciality boards for top performance in specific disciplines

  • Durability

    Somewhat fragile

Durability is largely a result of the board construction and shape, with more durable boards typically carrying more materials (added layers, PVC, etc) and as such adding to the weight.

  • Carrying

    Easy

Carrying ease is determined by board weight and handle type, where a board weighing under 20lbs with a Liftsup handle is extremely easy to carry while a 35+lbs board quite difficult.

  • Stability

    Average

Stability is a product of construction and shape, where boards w/ 30”+ wide and 200+ liters in volume offer plenty of stability for your AVG adult while a board under 26” wide is a challenge.

  • Glide

    Average

Glide is a result of board shape and construction, w/ boards weighing under 30lbs and designed for racing offering best glide while recreational boards normally being on the slow side.

Features

  • Dimensions

    12'6" x 32" x 6"

Industry standard in board dimensions reads: L (length, from nose to tail) x W (width, from rail to rail at midpoint length), and H (height, from top to bottom of board at midpoint length).

  • Weight

    22.6 lbs

Standup paddle boards tend to fall into 4 different weight classes: extremely lightweight (under 20 lbs), lightweight (20-28 lbs), average weight (28-35 lbs), heavy (above 35 lbs).

  • Volume

    339 L

Volume is a key metric to determine how much weight a board can carry. Boards w/ 200+ liters offer most floatation with boards under 150 liters typically for high-performance surf.

  • Capacity

    352 lbs

Capacity is the max cargo weight a stand up paddle board can carry, considering not only the paddler’s weight but whatever else the paddler may choose to carry alongside him/her.

  • Add On's

D Ring, Paddle Included, Leash Included

Add-on’s include bungee cords, a minimalist way to haul things; connexsup, which allows for all sorts of attachments, even fishing rods; and FCS II/Connect, for easy fin instal.

  • Handle

    Strap

Handles directly affect carrying ease, with external grip handles (Liftsup & EZgrab) offering most comfort, Internal Ergo Grip the mid-tier comfort, and box handles as least comfortable.

  • Holders

    No

Fishing rod holders and/or paddle holders can make paddling that much more pleasant, esp. when needing holders for the rod or having a safe place for the paddle during yoga.
