Paddle Board Highlights

Who is it for?

Looking for an all around inflatable board that’s affordably priced? The Aztron Mercury might be just what you had in mind. This standup paddle board is designed for all around paddling and would be a good choice for beginner paddlers and is even something the entire family can enjoy. The board is extremely lightweight, weighing only 17 lbs so it’s very easy to carry. The package comes with everything you need, board, paddle, pump, leash, and bag and is best suited for paddling shorter distances and in calm waters. With an MSRP of $449, this board sits in the low price point market and is one of the most affordable you can find.

First Impressions

The color coordination across the entire package really caught our attention at first. The box had nice graphics on it and then once you opened the box you see that everything included has the same teal and blue colors everywhere making the gear look really nice when put together. The paddle, bag and pump that come with the board are pretty basic. There was one hiccup that we had with the bag – when picking up the board when it was in the bag the bag did tear slightly so we recommend taking extra care and caution when handling. The board itself has a bunch of D rings on the deck where you can add bungee cord attachments if you like. These do not come with the package however so keep that in mind. Because the board is very lightweight it makes it a good option for smaller paddlers that would normally have difficulty handling a larger board. On the water, the board was pretty stable and fairly easy to turn. Depending on the size of paddler, this board could be good for smaller beginner paddlers but larger paddlers might have issues finding stability and should consider something a bit larger in size. That being said the double chamber tech that is featured here does help the board feel a bit more rigid and stable in addition to making it all the more safe on the water. It's also worth noting here that the utilization of this double chamber technology is not seen very often, especially at this price point which is a great value-add here. Overall, this package has a great aesthetic to it and comes with all the basics you need for a very reasonable price.

Benefits

  • Primary Use

    All Around

Paddle Boards fall into two broad categories, All-Around and Specialty boards, with all-around designed primarily for recreation while speciality boards for top performance in specific disciplines

  • Durability

    Somewhat fragile

Durability is largely a result of the board construction and shape, with more durable boards typically carrying more materials (added layers, PVC, etc) and as such adding to the weight.

  • Carrying

    Very Easy

Carrying ease is determined by board weight and handle type, where a board weighing under 20lbs with a Liftsup handle is extremely easy to carry while a 35+lbs board quite difficult.

  • Stability

    Average

Stability is a product of construction and shape, where boards w/ 30”+ wide and 200+ liters in volume offer plenty of stability for your AVG adult while a board under 26” wide is a challenge.

  • Glide

    Average

Glide is a result of board shape and construction, w/ boards weighing under 30lbs and designed for racing offering best glide while recreational boards normally being on the slow side.

Features

  • Dimensions

    10'10" x 32" x 6"

Industry standard in board dimensions reads: L (length, from nose to tail) x W (width, from rail to rail at midpoint length), and H (height, from top to bottom of board at midpoint length).

  • Weight

    17.9 lbs

Standup paddle boards tend to fall into 4 different weight classes: extremely lightweight (under 20 lbs), lightweight (20-28 lbs), average weight (28-35 lbs), heavy (above 35 lbs).

  • Volume

    306 L

Volume is a key metric to determine how much weight a board can carry. Boards w/ 200+ liters offer most floatation with boards under 150 liters typically for high-performance surf.

  • Capacity

    308 lbs

Capacity is the max cargo weight a stand up paddle board can carry, considering not only the paddler’s weight but whatever else the paddler may choose to carry alongside him/her.

  • Add On's

D Ring, Paddle Included, Leash Included

Add-on’s include bungee cords, a minimalist way to haul things; connexsup, which allows for all sorts of attachments, even fishing rods; and FCS II/Connect, for easy fin instal.

  • Handle

    Strap

Handles directly affect carrying ease, with external grip handles (Liftsup & EZgrab) offering most comfort, Internal Ergo Grip the mid-tier comfort, and box handles as least comfortable.

  • Holders

    No

Fishing rod holders and/or paddle holders can make paddling that much more pleasant, esp. when needing holders for the rod or having a safe place for the paddle during yoga.
