When John and Bari Denney left Maui to open Jupiter Paddleboarding in South Florida a few years ago, they had no idea how the sport would grow and what impact they would have.

As the 17 nations paraded through the streets of Miraflores, a coastal city in Lima, with flags waving, wearing their national colors and singing the songs of their country, the excitement of the first-ever ISA World StandUp Paddle (SUP) and Paddleboard Championship struck nearly every sense of the body.

The first edition of the ISA World StandUp Paddle (SUP) and Paddleboard Championship will take place February 19-25, 2012 on the beaches of Miraflores, Lima, Peru - home to the famous Waikiki Surf Club and the cradle of modern Peruvian surfing.

Stand Up for the Cure is a paddleboard race this coming May 5th, 2012 in Newport Beach, California. Part of the proceeds of the race and of the sales of a signature Riviera board will go to the SuzamnG Komen Foundation, a charitable organization dedicated to the fight against cancer.

Coming-Up Soon! Benefitting the Reef Check and Punta Sayulita Foundations, some of the top surfers and stand-up paddlers (SUP) in the world are set to return to Sayulita to compete in surfing contests as well as in exciting offshore SUP races.

The Battle of the Paddle (BOP) California, organized by Rainbow Sandals, still reigns supremely as the world’s largest stand up paddle event, with 985 participants on hand in 2011.

The non-profit San Diego paddle club held its annual race over the weekend and witnessed a record turnout of over 600 paddlers, becoming one of the largest paddling events around the world.

Of all stand up paddle board races, the Hanohano is arguably one of the most important races in the calendar, due to the large turnout, easy entry level for race novices, and a highly scenic venue on mission bay.

The venue couldn’t have been much better for the exposure of the sport, with thousands of eyeballs being caught by surprise as hundreds of stand up paddle boarders cruised in the channels of downtown Miami.
