If you’re looking for a very stable, non-inflatable, all-around board that is affordable then the Moorea by Pelican is worth a look. This stand up paddle (SUP) board comes in a composite construction which is durable. Due to its width of 32 inches the board is very stable and has 2.56 lbs per foot, weighing 29.4 lbs total, putting the board at an average weight. Its shape makes the Moorea an all-around board that can be used by everyone and was designed primarily for recreation. Its construction and shape combined best fit this board for short distance paddling, typically around the beach or dock. Retailing at only $849 this board is at the low end of the popular mid-tier market and is a great board for the price.
First Impressions
On first impressions, the graphics and color are stunning, the shape design is thoughtful and the construction strikes as durable. The Moorea is visually impressive coming with bold colors and wood accents that are intended to be eye-catching. The shape design is unique for boards in these categories, offering features tailored primarily for recreational paddling. The construction does appear strong, as something that can handle heavy use. This paddle board is somewhat difficult to carry since it weighs just under 30 lbs and the glide feels average, which is to be expected since lightweight construction and speed-centric design are marginally incorporated here. Once you put it all together, the Moorea is a board that is affordable and available for fun for paddlers of all skill levels.
