HONOLULU, Hawaii (July 26th 2015)- In grueling conditions that paired extreme heat, humidity, unfavorable tides and massive surf, the most prestigious event in the sport of paddleboarding, The Molokai2Oahu Paddleboarding World Championships concluded today. The race was the most extreme in years with a record number of dropouts, high drama towards the finish and conditions that will live on in infamy. At the end of the day, Australian Travis Grant came out on top and dominated the field to claim a second world championship title.

Travis dominated from the start but had a formidable challenge from Lincoln Dews, Kai Lenny and Connor Baxter. In the end it was Travis’s knowledge of the channel, experience in outrigger canoe paddling and his equipment that helped get him the championship. Riding a production NSP board Travis also took another title. “The first paddler to win the unlimited SUP category of the race on a board actually manufactured by his board sponsor.” Unlike the boards won by paddlers of past years this board will be available to be ordered by the public in 2 widths to cater to professional and recreational paddlers.

Travis’ board was designed by Travis Grant, Alain Turquetil and shaped by Dale Chapman at NSP’s manufacturing facility. The board was a 17’10 x 24.5 EPS Core with a full carbon fibre lamination for durability/weight and an innovative steering system. Like all NSP DC’s they are designed to maximize flatwater speed as well as bump riding ocean performance. Travis’ result today vindicates this design theory yet again.

The win is significant for NSP, and perfect timing with the recent announcement that Surftech will be distributing NSP in North America and Australia. The entire Surftech management team was on hand for the win and welcomed Travis to the beach with champagne and cheers. “NSP has always been known to have the best recreational boards in the industry. There’s more to the story than just inexpensive and durable boards, every board in the line has been designed for the end user. In this case, the designers and owners had a simple plan. Design, test and develop a board to win Molokai,” said Ryan Guay, GM of NSP North America.

The winning board will be making the 3000-mile journey to the 2015 Summer Outdoor Retailer show in Utah where it will be on display in the NSP/Surftech booth. To see more highlights and results from the M2O, click here.
