SANTA CRUZ, CA – Surftech is pleased to announce that Maui Jim sunglasses has signed on as presenting sponsor of the 10th Annual Surftech Jay Moriarity Memorial Paddleboard Race. With the continued growth of the "Jay Race" as it's become known, Maui Jim has chosen this historical event as one of its top paddle events in California! "Jay Moriarity was one of the most inspiring young surfers and a terrific role model," said Linda Glassel, vice president of Marketing for Maui Jim. "Everyone should live like Jay, which is why Maui Jim and our surfing ambassadors show up to support this 12 mile race that's a tribute to all that's great about this sport."

The Historic 10th Annual race will take place Saturday, June 25th at it's new venue. The Jay Race will move just up the coast to the quaint seaside town of Capitola. This new location will offer race participants and spectators a beautiful race venue, many food and beverage amenities, convenient restrooms, showers and parking. The Jay Race would like to thank the Santa Cruz County Lifeguards and Junior Lifeguards for their years of support in helping make the event one of the most prestigious paddleboard races in California!  Proceeds will be donated to the Santa Cruz County Junior Lifeguard programs (as they have since the first race in 2002).

Many past Jay Race champions will be back to compete for the coveted 2011 Jay Race title including 4-time winner, Gary Fortune, 2009 winner Craig Waltz and defending 2010 champ, Anthony Vela. They know that the best way to experience Santa Cruz and the picturesque Monterey Bay is from the water! "I come up to Santa Cruz to do the race because it's a great course in a beautiful area with extraordinary camaraderie among competitors and all those involved putting the race together. I never new Jay, but I bet he would have been pretty stoked on the whole vibe of the event," - Gary Fortune, LA County Lifeguard.

If you're up for the challenge, we welcome you to join these elite paddlers for the 12-mile open ocean race. If 12-miles seems too ambitious, why not start off where many rookie paddlers first pulled on a race jersey and challenge yourself in the 2-mile sprint?

Join ocean athletes from around the country as they glide through the pristine waters of the Monterey Bay for the 10th Annual Surftech Jay Moriarity Memorial Paddleboard Race presented by Maui Jim. Set a goal, pull the trigger and sign up for the Jay Race to achieve it! If you're more of a social paddler, no worries! Form a team and enter the Covewater SUP relay!  If you haven't registered yet, there is still time! But, hurry because the entry fees go up June 24th and the races are filling up fast. Click HERE
