SAN DIEGO, California - Yesterday was a beautiful summer day along the California coastline and Supconnect was lucky enough to catch up with Will Schmidt outside of Newport Beach while he paddled from Huntington to Dana Point.

As a quick recap, if you haven’t heard of Will Schmidt and what he is doing, pay attention: Will has been on a two-month journey paddling from the US/Canada border all the way down to the US/Mexico border, a journey of around 1,400 miles.

Will has set out on this journey to raise awareness for the Wounded Warriors Project and aims to help raise awareness for those suffering from anxiety and depression. He will be the first to ever attempt this paddle, alone and unassisted.

Omar, a supporter of Will and SUP enthusiast, has been following Will and been keeping up-to-date on Will’s progress in his journey, so when Will reached Omar’s hometown of Newport Beach, CA, Omar wanted to welcome Will with open arms and an epic party.

The beautiful yacht that was chartered to greet Will.

Omar generously chartered a beautiful yacht, with Paradiso Yacht Charters, and invited Will’s family, friends and other SUP enthusiasts aboard to greet Will outside of Newport Harbor. Even the OC Fire Dept. tagged along to greet Will and praise him on his efforts.

The Orange County Fire Dept. came out to greet Will with huge water hoses!

Once we came across Will out on the open ocean, he came aboard and celebrated with everyone who came to greet him. He drank a bit of water, chatted with everyone for a few minutes and then he was off the boat and back out on his SIC F 16 to continue his journey south.

SIC’s Anthony and Tyler brought along a few SIC inflatables and everyone jumped on the SUPs and paddled alongside Will towards Dana Point. It was an incredible day on the water and truly mesmerizing to see someone accomplishing such an amazing goal. We look forward to sharing more of his story with you.
